ROMA KNX solutions use the globally recognized KNX standard for the intelligent networking of building technology. In Smart Homes, KNX systems can be used for lighting, heating, ventilation, security and automated shading. The KNX Roller Shutters control system, which allows ROMA Roller Shutters to be conveniently operated centrally or time-controlled, is particularly popular.
Communication in the KNX system usually takes place via a special bus cable, which is laid together with the power supply during new construction. Alternatively, KNX commands can also be transmitted by radio or via the existing power line. Thanks to the wide variety of products within the KNX standard, there are suitable solutions for almost every application - from Roller Shutters, External Venetian Blinds and Textile Screens to complete building control systems.
If you want to use KNX not only to centrally control Roller Shutters and other sun shading systems, but also to use more extensive Smart Home functions, you need a powerful KNX control center such as the Gira HomeServer. This intelligent control center connects your KNX installation to the home network and the Internet - enabling operation via smartphone, tablet or web browser, no matter where you are.
With the addition of the Gira Home Server, not only classic functions such as lighting, heating or shading can be controlled. Complex applications such as door intercom systems, security cameras, audio systems and external solutions in the sanitary or entertainment area can also be seamlessly integrated. This turns your home into a fully networked KNX Smart Home system - individually
customized, secure and energy-efficient.
The Gira HomeServer is set up and configured exclusively by certified specialist partners. Adaptations or extensions, such as for KNX central roller shutter control or the integration of additional components, are carried out professionally by the system integrator.
ROMA KNX enables a wide range of sun shading products to be controlled via the KNX system. The connection is made via wired motors in combination with on-site system components, i.e. switching devices that receive KNX commands and pass them on to the respective drive.
*System components are switching devices that can be controlled by the Smart Home system and can pass on the corresponding function to the motor/device.
The KNX connection isparticularly suitable for new buildingsas the system is based on a wired infrastructure. Alternatively, extensions via radio or power connectionare also possible - ideal for retrofitting individual components.

An intelligent Smart Home needs a well thought-out foundation. With ROMA and KNX as well as a powerful system such as the Gira HomeServer, you can create a reliable, flexible and future-proof solution for controlling your entire building technology - from Roller Shutters and External Venetian Blinds to lighting, climate and security.
The following overview shows which functions can be implemented using the KNX system and what needs to be taken into account.
KNX is a globally recognized standard for the intelligent networking of building technology. Systems for lighting, heating, ventilation, security and automated shading can be interconnected and centrally controlled via a bus cable - alternatively also via radio or powerline. KNX is manufacturer-independent, can be flexibly expanded and is particularly suitable for use in new buildings.
KNX is linked to ROMA products via wired motors and on-site system components such as switching actuators. These components receive KNX control signals and pass them on to ROMA Roller Shutters, External Venetian Blinds or Textile Screens. In this way, the sun shading systems can be conveniently operated centrally, time-controlled or automatically via sensors - also in combination with a Gira HomeServer or other KNX Smart Home servers.
KNX systems are particularly suitable for new buildings, as they are based on bus cabling that is ideally planned from the outset. However, retrofitting via radio or power lines is also possible for certain applications.
The installation and configuration of a KNX system - especially with components such as the Gira HomeServer - is carried out exclusively by certified system integrators or specialist electrical companies. You cannot make adjustments yourself.
The Gira HomeServer is a central control unit for KNX Smart Home systems. It connects the KNX installation to the home network and the Internet - so you can also operate your ROMA sun shading system on the move using an app or browser. The app is available free of charge in the App Store and Google Play Store.
