Environmental Product Declarations (EPD) from ROMA
ROMA is the first manufacturer of sun protection systems to transparently disclose the environmental impact of its products and processes to its partners. The EPDs have been independently verified by the IBU in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 and provide life cycle assessment data for building evaluations, such as those based on DGNB, BNB, or QNG standards.
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) summarizes the environmentally relevant information regarding a product’s life cycle assessment throughout its entire life cycle. To this end, a manufacturer such as ROMA must provide detailed data on its sun protection solutions: From raw material extraction through manufacturing and use to dismantling and recycling of its products. EPDs are based on international standards and are verified by independent auditors prior to publication by the IBU (Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V.).
“EPDs make sustainability measurable and comparable,” says Friedrich Gülzow, EPD project manager at ROMA. “This transparent disclosure of all ingredients is unique. ROMA is the first sun protection manufacturer in the world to publish EPDs.” Incidentally, this is also the first time that EPDs have been issued for such a wide range of products.

With EPD certificates for Roller Shutters, External Venetian Blinds, and Textile Screens, ROMA provides credible evidence that these products are expressly recommended for environmentally responsible construction. As a partner in certification systems for sustainable construction—including DGNB, LEED, and BREEAM—ROMA ensures maximum transparency regarding the life cycle assessment of construction projects.
Building owners are increasingly seeking sustainable construction. In many cases, EPD-certified systems are specifically required in calls for bids. ROMA specialty contractors have the advantage here that excessive price negotiations take a back seat when verified EPDs are explicitly required. ROMA was the first manufacturer to disclose the environmental impacts of its Roller Shutters, External Venetian Blinds, and Textile Screens in verified EPDs, thereby sparking a shift in thinking within the sun protection industry.
