Exterior blinds or External Venetian Blinds: What does ROMA offer?
The term “blind” is often used in everyday language to refer to various sun protection solutions. This usually refers to interior blinds, which are installed on the room side of the window. ROMA, on the other hand, focuses on exterior blinds, technically known as External Venetian Blinds. This solution is particularly effective because the sunshade is positioned directly in front of the window pane.
Why exterior blinds are more effective than interior blinds
Interior blinds can regulate light and provide privacy. However, when it comes to heat protection, they quickly reach their limits because the sun’s energy has already entered the room through the glass. An exterior blind takes effect much sooner: it blocks a large portion of the sun’s rays before they reach the window pane.
As a result, living and workspaces remain at a more comfortable temperature in the summer. Especially for large window areas, south-facing windows, attic spaces, or modern glass facades, exterior sun protection can noticeably improve living comfort*. At the same time, External Venetian Blinds allow for precise control of daylight without completely darkening rooms.
High-quality blind systems from ROMA for outdoors
If you’re looking for custom-made venetian blinds , ROMA offers technically advanced aluminum venetian blinds for outdoor use that control daylight, provide privacy, and are built to last. The adjustable slats ensure precise light control, provide effective protection against heat and glare, and offer privacy both day and night. Another advantage: ROMA blinds are installed on the exterior and reflect the sun’s rays before they even reach the window—which significantly reduces the amount of heat absorbed by interior spaces.

ROMA Venetian blinds: Advantages over internal blinds
ROMA sun protection blinds can improve the indoor climate. As an exterior sun protection system, they block sunlight* before it reaches the windowpane, effectively reducing the buildup of heat inside the room.
Compared to interior blinds, heat is blocked outside* rather than building up behind the glass. This results in noticeably lower room temperatures. The adjustable slats also provide flexible glare protection and allow for precise control of natural light—creating bright rooms without uncomfortable heat.
Blinds or Roller Shutters - which is better?
Many people ask themselves whether venetian blinds or Roller Shutters are better—especially when planning new construction or energy-efficient window renovations. First, it’s important to distinguish between interior and exterior venetian blinds.
Interior blinds are mainly used to control light inside a room and provide privacy. They’re easy to install, but significantly less effective in terms of thermal insulation.
Venetian Blinds Against the Sun: Is Protection from Light and Heat Possible?
Exterior blinds, such as ROMA External Venetian Blinds, block the sun’s rays before they even reach the windowpane. They provide effective thermal protection in the summer, glare protection in the workplace, daylight control, and a high degree of design flexibility for the facade.
Roller Shutters, on the other hand, serve additional functions: They are particularly well-suited for darkening rooms, improve thermal and sound insulation, and make a valuable contribution to burglary prevention. If needed, they can also be equipped with integrated insect screens or solar-powered operation.
Buying Exterior Blinds: Why Advice and Measurements Are Important
Anyone looking to purchase exterior venetian blinds should consider more than just dimensions and design. Exterior sun protection must be compatible with the building’s facade, the window layout, and the building’s intended use. Wind resistance, ease of operation, installation method, and mounting options also play an important role.
That’s whyROMA relies on advice from qualified specialist partners. They assist with product selection, measurement, planning, and installation of ROMA sun protection systems. The result is a solution that is technically sound, visually appealing, and reliably functional over the long term.
